The present paper aims to analyze the most common judicial errors in the state of Minas Gerais, through data collected in criminal review actions judged by the Court of Justice from 2012 to 2020. A judicial error clearly causes a harmful impact on the life of the defendant found guilty. The topic is contextualized by bringing the aspects of criminal review, elucidating its purpose, the justification of its existence, and the hypotheses for it to occur. A database of 4,561 criminal reviews is analyzed and the most frequent errors are verified; real cases illustrate each situation. Finally, the main error detected in the Minas Gerais Judiciary System is presented. As it is related to the sentence, we claim special attention should be given to judges’ training.
