This article deals with the regularization of the remaining quilombola communities as a factor in the preservation of ancestral memory and of the historical and cultural heritage of Brazil, focusing on the quilombola community of Júlio Borges, located within the municipality of Salto do Jacuí, State of Rio Grande do Sul. The objective is to verify how the process of land titling occurs and the way it impacts the life of the community and the capacity to preserve the quilombola identity. The research problem that is intended to be answered is: is the right to land, from its demarcation and titling, an important factor in the preservation of quilombola ancestral memory? To this end, aspects about the quilombola ancestry and the formation of their identity, the Brazilian legislation in force, the delay in the completion of the titling processes, and information collected in the community under study were addressed. The approach adopted was qualitative-quantitative, exploratory in nature, with the use of the deductive method, with bibliographic and documental procedures, as well as field research, with an interview conducted with the Vice President of the quilombola association. As a result, it was found that, after the regularization of the quilombo Júlio Borges, the community started to promote a series of actions that contributed and contribute to the strengthening of the quilombola identity and to the preservation of the ancestral memory, besides guaranteeing the definitive settlement of several families.
